Syracuse firefighters release name of man who died in weekend house fire

Syracuse, N.Y. — A 71-year-old man died from injuries he suffered in a house fire Saturday on Syracuse’s North Side, police said
The man was David Jones, Syracuse police department announced Monday.
Firefighters found Jones unconscious inside a second-floor apartment. He was brought out a window, down a ladder to waiting paramedics who started CPR.
He was taken to Upstate University Hospital where he later died from his injuries, police said in a news release.
The fire at 519 Burnet Ave. was reported at about 6 p.m. on Saturday.
Firefighters found heavy fire coming from the second floor when they arrived, according to Deputy Fire Chief James Farewell. He said it took about 20 minutes to put out the fire.
The building is a multi-family residence. The second floor sustained extensive fire damage, firefighters said.
Syracuse fire investigators have determined the cause of the fire to be accidental. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
